Green City Sendai: Early Morning Bird-watching

Get up with the sparrows in the 'City of Trees'

Sendai City may be the largest metropolis in the Tohoku region and home to all of the conveniences of a big city, but just a short walk from the city centre and you’ll find yourself surrounded by parks, rivers, forests and mountains.  For many years, Sendai has been attributed the name of ‘Mori-no-miyako’ (杜の都)or ‘City of Trees’, so it is no surprise that it is also home to diverse birdlife and other local wildlife (no lions or tigers, but sometimes bears…Oh my!)

Make the most of your time in the city by waking up early and exploring the local nature. Your guide will meet you at ‘Sendai International Center Station’, just a short 6 min ride on the subway from the city centre. After showing you to some of the most popular bird-watching spots in the Mt. Aobayama area (known among local bird-watchers for frequent sightings of Japanese ‘Kawasemi’ Kingfisher and other local species) you will hike up to the former site of Aoba Castle to enjoy a spot of breakfast while taking in the view over Sendai City.

Get up before the crowds and feel like you have the city all to yourself!

**Please bring your own binoculars**
